BlackBerry has announced its mobile messaging application BBM for Android has hit the 100 million download milestone.
Announced in late October 2013, BBM for Android has 3.7 million reviews on the Play Store and 2.4 million of them have five star rating.
“Of course, Android is just one of the four platforms on which BBM is now available. The others, of course, are BlackBerry, iOS, and Windows Phone. So while 100 million installs is a big number, it’s still just a fraction of the total,” the company blog post noted.
The Canadian smartphone maker added that BBM for Android users have sent over 1 billion stickers and the company is achieving 1 billion virtual goods impressions in the BBM shop on monthly basis.
“All these numbers just go to show the tremendous momentum behind BBM right now.”
Although, BBM is still far behind the current messaging leader WhatsApp, which has 700 million active users and 1 billion downloads, or even WeChat and LINE, with over 300 million active users each, the number shows that the BlackBerry Messenger is improving its position on Android ecosystem.
In related news, BlackBerry recently released BBM for Android version 2.7 with support for features like custom BBM PINs, Android Wear support and more.
The updated BBM app is currently available for download from the Google Play Store.
